How to marinate meat, the different steps to take

The first thing to keep in mind is that each meat has its own personality. That means, for example, that the marinade you are going to use does not necessarily have to be the same for beef, chicken, or pork.

On the other hand, and it goes without saying, there is nothing written about tastes. Ideally, you want your own touch, especially when it comes to quantities. Meat that is not marinated can be bland, but if it is too much it can be very strong for many. In the past, it was used as a preservation method, but today it is a way to enhance the flavor.

In any case, there are some basic recommendations that you have to know about grilled meat. This will allow you to achieve a better result for your clients:


It is important to note that beef should not be marinated for more than one day. The reason is that, if it is done like that, it takes a too artificial or preserved flavor that is not usually liked. Therefore, and as a general principle, it should not be more than a few hours.

Beef tends to go very well with a marinade for lean cuts. An interesting option is to mix a cup of virgin olive oil, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce (English sauce), Dijon mustard, and a clove of garlic. Subsequently, you have to submerge the meat for four hours. Once you have it ready, you can let it dry and season it.

Chicken meat

The chicken, by its nature, marinades long tolerated well. It will depend on each case, but you can soak it for an hour or between 12 hours and up to 3 days, depending on the dish and your intentions.

The chicken marinates with cumin is achieved using a mixture of extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Once you have it, you can submerge the chicken and let it rest for an hour.

Pork Meat

The pork can be marinated, but it is advisable to never do more than one day. Of course, if you use the right proportions, you will enhance the flavor of your barbecue.

Soy sauce is probably one of the best marinades for pork. This marinade can be made by mixing soy sauce, garlic cloves, honey, grated ginger, sesame, a cinnamon stick, and coriander seeds. This marinade has to rest once submerged, at least three hours.
